NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION On Tuesday, March 12th 2024, induction ceremonies were held for the Lawrence Cardinal Shehan Chapter of the National Honor Society. After the inductees took the National Honor Society Pledge, each student came to the stage to receive the NHS stole and the certificate of membership. Please congratulate Jack Frasca ‘25 for representing Curley in the 2024 Maryland All State Jazz Ensemble this past Saturday at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Jack was joined by the best jazz musicians from across the state. The ensemble was directed by Mr. Dave Ballou, Director of Jazz and Commercial Music, Towson University. Today, fifteen Jesuit Colleges came to Curley as part of a Jesuit in Excellence Tour. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen were invited to talk with colleges and gain insight on what the colleges are looking for and learn more about each one. On March 26th Curley will host a general college fair during the school day for students to attend.
A group of nine students represented Archbishop Curley in Annapolis on Tuesday during BOOST Advocacy Day. Students met with lawmakers from Curley’s legislative district to express the school community’s support for continued BOOST funding as well as textbook funding and a proposed non-public school transportation tax credit for families. The students were able to meet in person with a number of lawmakers and members of the leadership team from the Archdiocese of Baltimore. They were able to explore Maryland’s historic State House during the visit.

The members of the Curley Jazz Lab, Curley Jazz and the Curley Alumni Band joined together with the guest band from the Shenandoah Conservatory to transform the SDR into a jazz club for the evening. Guest artists Dr. Matt Niess and Mike Tomaro also worked with the Curley Jazz Ensemble in a pre-concert clinic before performing with the group before a sold-out crowd.
We kicked off our spring sports season with our Curley Spring Athletics Media Day which featured athletes from Baseball, Lacrosse, Track & Field, Tennis, and Golf. Our athletes and coaches got a chance to take photos and discuss predictions for their upcoming season ahead with our Friars Nation Crew that featured Nicholas Polinsky ’24 as our guest host. We wish our spring athletes a safe and successful season!
On Tuesday February 27th, Archbishop Curley students participated in an assembly celebrating Black History Month. Earlier in February students gathered to reflect on the origins of Black History Month by watching a segment recorded by Byron Pitts ’78 for ABC News. The school community also participated in prayer and a reflection delivered by Friar Chris. On Tuesday, the Black Student Union presented an assembly that included a reflection on the past as well as contemporary stories. Students viewed a film detailing the life and vocation of Fr. Today we begin the Lenten Season with the celebration of Mass for Ash Wednesday. We pray that this is the start of a fruitful 40 days for us all individually and as a faith community. Today we were joined by two very special guests. Archbishop Lori and Mr. Greg Farno, Chancellor of Catholic Schools.

This past weekend, Curley’s Model UN Club participated in a three day Model UN Conference at American University in Washington DC. Apart from the conference, the team took time to explore DC including a stop to the Capitol and tours of several embassies along embassy row. It was a successful conference with all participants receiving good feedback from the American University conference chairs.
Several Curley students had a spiritual, fun, and insightful experience at the Mount 2000 retreat at Mount St. Mary’s this weekend. They joined the nearly 1500 other youth from across the area to reflect on how we can allow Christ to enflame our hearts and how we can set the world on fire with God’s love.

Archbishop Curley is proud to be participating in the Special Olympics Cool Schools Plunge again this year! This year will feature a two part event…the SGA will be taking the plunge at Sandy Point State Park tomorrow for the Cool Schools event, but our faculty and staff participants will STILL be participating in the crowd favorite plunge event on Curley’s campus too. Next week, the following staff members will have different levels of water dumped on them based on the amount of money they have raised. Curley began Catholic Schools Week today with a school Mass led by Fr. Michael Heine, a former counselor at the school and now provincial of the Friars. Fr. Michael urged all to seek to make good choices, but also to learn from mistakes and any bad choices they might make. At the end of the Mass the Barry Brownlee Teacher of the Year award was presented to Mrs. Kim Burton, Curley’s Science Department Teacher and Chairperson. CONGRATULATIONS!
